I discovered Yin Yoga by accident, or perhaps it discovered me in just the right moment.
After we grew our family from 3 to-5 through adoption, sleep was a challenge in our home. At the end of a day my body and spirit ached. To help my daughters settle and support their nervous systems, I stayed in the room on the floor quietly taking yoga poses. I found that just settling into stillness and exploring the pose deeper was delightful for me and seemed to really calm my kids as they listened to my breath. Later that year, I went to a yoga conference and signed up for a workshop...and realized there was a name for what I had been using to help us all sleep and release tension. How does it get any better than that? Here are my favorite 3 yin poses before bed and a sample from a June Yin series. The class targets hips, pelvis, and low back with a psoas release focus. |
