You crave strength, rest, inner calm, resilience, and an uprising of spirit. Connection. Freedom. And you want it not only for yourself, but for your kids, grandkids, community, world, and all of humanity.
Maybe you feel a little (or a lot) out of sync. Overwhelmed. Flooded.
Maybe your heart feels heavy with all that's been happening in the world. Maybe you're finding yourself a little overwhelmed as a mom and all it takes to love so big. Maybe you're feeling weary from all the transition, disruption, and uncertainty in the world. Maybe you are also working through some challenging transitions in your personal life or family life and haven't had much time to digest it all.
Maybe the underlying hum of anxiety is still buzzing and it's hard to focus or feel rested. You're tired...and wired.
There may be aches, pains, imbalances in health or hormones that persist despite all your "healthy choices." You care deeply for others and chances are you are in the role of caregiving or community care in some way or many ways so much that you have little time and energy left for yourself.
You're smart. You're savvy. And it's likely you've read a lot, tried a lot, done a lot, but it all still feels heavy and maybe a little confusing...in body, in mind, in spirit, heart...as you sift through the ever-changing saturation of information on health and healthy choices.
AND...you sense something else is possible ...or you wouldn't be here.
I get it. I've been there.
Healing starts with the dissolving of layers of separation and disconnection within us. We can access so much deep wisdom, ease, joy, and freedom when we journey home to our bodies.
EXHALE Dear One. More ease, joy, vitality, and inner freedom are possible! Rest assured. There is nothing wrong with you. Motherhood is a journey that shifts every part of you. It's a lot to navigate right now and I see you.
I made this program for you. I made it for me. I made this for my daughters, for our children and for future generations because I believe the healing starts with each of us and we start from where we are--already enough and inherently whole.
This was not createdfrom points of view of lack, inadequacy, or the need to be better, do better, do more. We are ready to move beyond these and uncover the truth.
It's time to rest and restore. It's time to access a deeper energy. Deeper rhythm. One that sustains. It's time to Root Rise and Thrive... To feel our roots go deep. To feel our roots connect us to ourselves. To connect to the rhythms of earth, moon, sun, and seasons. To connect to the elements of nature (earth, water, fire, air, and space) that help reveal our true nature. To connect to each other for a more sustainable source of vital energy.
Healing starts with the dissolving of layers of separation and disconnection within us. We can access so much deep wisdom, ease, joy, and freedom when we journey home to our bodies.
From a full embodied presence, we can authentically hold spaces of healing for those we love and engage in creating the peace and freedom we want all to receive access.
Only when we listen to and return to our true nature can we find the power and beauty we have as women. -Angela Farmer
PAUSE with me. Take 3 full belly breaths with a hand on your heart. Move your body in any way it wants to right now. Exhale all the way at the end of each breath. Perhaps let out a sigh or sound (like "ah" or even a groan for fun) on your exhalations.
Imagine with me. What if we were to...
claim rest, ritual, rhythm, healing and wholeness?
value connection over separation?
reclaim love over fear?
dissolve lies of inadequacy and scarcity?
engage in creating the communities and world we know are possible?
create the life we long to live and the world we want our kids to belong to?
come home to our bodies and their innate wisdom?
support one another in authentic, unapologetic self-care and self-love so we can act from strong roots and integrated body, mind, spirit, and nervous system?
Now, imagine prana, life force, moving through your imagination.
What might this feel like, look like 3 months from now? 1 year from now? Are you ready to make this journey with support of a guide and a dynamic community?
*****
I curated this program to support women mothering through adoption navigate the deep joys, intense transitions, and complexities of growing and being family while tending to their own thresholds of physical, spiritual, and emotional transformation . I created it as a place where you can care deeply for yourself, receive support, and bring action to imagination together.
I want you to trust YOU. To remember your wisdom, and power, and aliveness. To feel rooted, rested and resilient.
I WANT US TO BE FIERCE YET SOFT TOGETHER, inhabiting our bodies fully and experiencing the full range of being human and mother while we create a path healing and wholeness for our kids. This is embodied healing, feminine healing.
I want us to nurture and nourish and remember together. Heal together. I want to create, bless, and sustain a community of women who are momma bears for themselves in such radical, hopeful ways that they are free and powerful in their care for others and their hope for the future as we help create the world we want to live in and leave behind for future generations.
I don’t think that’s too much to hope for. Do you?
In root rise thrive, we get to do all that together and watch it evolve and sustain us through each season, cycle, and breath. ROOT DOWN into self-care rituals and rhythms (unapologetically) RISE UP and claim their inherent wholeness and powerful energy THRIVE in body, mind, spirit, soul and create the life, relationships, and world we know are possible.
Working with Karla was truly an investment in health and wellness. Her program was grounding, practical, and doable, and her presence is kind and supportive. Karla doesn't just teach; she radiates all that she shares in her program - she lives this. Now we're in a pandemic, and it's stressful, but I'm using everything I learned in Root, Rise, Thrive daily to stay afloat, manage multiple roles and responsibilities, and lean into the slower pace to find joy in a difficult time. - Hilary Mandzik , PsyD, Licensed Psychologist, hilarymandzik.com
"Karla is the real deal! I’ve been working with her for about 9 months, both individually and as part of Root Rise Thrive. She has a wealth of knowledge about healing the body, mind and soul and has a wonderful way of being 100% supportive and non judgmental, while gently challenging me to me to make slow and steady shifts to be more grounded in my body, and to create/maintain habits that are nurturing and life-giving. Karla uses many tools, but is flexible and curious, helping her clients to find what is right for them. She's also grounded, relatable and so very kind. In the past 9 months, I’ve been able to create some sustainable practices and habits that have really helped me to step into my authentic self, thrive during a global pandemic (!!) and to become a much more grounded and responsive mother and partner." --Jessica G, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Adoptive parent
“The word hopelessness is no longer in my vocabulary. I feel like I am truly alive again, not just living.” --Amy C
"My experience with Root Rise Thrive was absolutely life giving! I came into the course stuck in my head, disconnected from my body, without really realizing it. One of the most impactful moments was our very first session when you defined what it means to root down, feel your physical body on the earth and connect with it, dropping consciousness away from thought and into being in my body. That’s a daily practice for me now and I find grounded-ness through it, paired with a few deep breaths, every day. Looking back at my life prior to RRT I realize that I’ve started allowing myself a lot more grace - forgiving myself for thoughts, listening to my body and asking questions instead of judging. Finally, there is nothing quite like the feeling of connecting with a group of women, all on different paths in life but taking one hour each week to root down and rise up together. That feeling is priceless to me. (Tearing up). I guess you could say I’m really thriving now, more comfortable in my body and mind, judging myself less and playing more!" 💛 -- Alicia D.

Meet Karla Johnston-Krase
I see you. I believe in you. I'm mom to three radiant teen daughters, through birth and adoption, who still feeling affects of a pandemic and feeling like they missed some parts of life and growth.
I get transitions and am currently navigating a few of my own at the moment, beyond parenting. My own parents are aging and we're navigating my mother's life with Alzheimer's. My partner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 5 years ago. Perimenopause has been one of the biggest on-going transitions of all. And well, I'm learning how to befriend my own grief around ambiguous loss, set healthy boundaries (because compassion fatigue was a deep downward spiral for me in the past), really love and accept myself (through radical self-care), and truly LIVE and feel ALIVE each day, moment, emotion, and breath.
"We shake with joy, we shake with grief. What a time they have, these two housed as they are in the same body" - Mary Oliver
Yup. That about sums it up. Joy and grief - jumbled together in ways that call me to center more and more each day of this precious life.
And as a mom of both black and white children, I am always learning what it means to be vulnerable and engage in hard, and often uncomfortable, conversations about race, parenting, culture, and my inherited white advantage. If I am not taking care of me, living from center, it’s challenging for me to stay present and not react at times when my own biases are called out. So, I am committed to the kind of self-care that cultivates connection over separation and judgment. It's lifetime work that will require generations.
Oh, and I love a good smoothie with avocados, cocoa powder, and lots of greens, and. maybe an herbal boost or two. Room temperature or warm (you'll learn why in Root Rise Thrive). I also enjoy growing flowers in our garden, learning about medicinal herbs and wild edibles, wire wrapping gems and stones, hiking at the river with my kiddos, and eating the yummy treats my girls have taken to creating (thanks to quarantine inspiration that began in 2020 their cooking and baking skill skyrocketed)!
These 3 amazing human beings (LEFT PHOTO with me) call me "mom". And they inspire what I do and tend to be my greatest teachers.
They are now beautiful teens - still amazing and inspiring! According to Ayurveda (and emerging science), we carry 5-7 generations in our DNA. Ayurveda also teaches that we inherit our mother’s nervous system and the undigested thoughts and experiences - their unfulfilled longings. (wow, right?!) The beautiful woman in the hammock (RIGHT PHOTO) with my daughter and me is my mother. She birthed me into the world and offered alot of love and safe home in the best ways she knew how and I am so grateful. This photo was taken on one of her on her last solo trip to visit us, where signs of memory loss became very evident. I cried myself to sleep the night before this day and then got up the next. Stepped into my self-care rituals and decided to embrace the day with total presence for all it might bring.
So, back to DNA, Ayurveda, and me. I can easily default to worry, anxiety, caregiving, perfectionism, and what follows is often shame, guilt, yuck and muck. We do inherit some things, but we are also responsible for ourselves and claiming, reclaiming, emulating our own health, power, and freedom.
If your mother’s nervous system is not something you necessarily want to emulate, it's ok. We don’t have to blame and shame our mothers or ourselves. We can simply know that we are all carrying the inheritance of the past and we can move out of that, no matter what. The healing starts with us and reaches into generations past and future. I take responsibility for my own inner work and deep healing so that my children and grandchildren don't have to do it for me. We get to LIVE fully awake, alive, present, connected, free, and full - and we can share that gift with others. (Imperfectly of course.)
When we live from connectivity and presence, we have a greater capacity to create safe, healing spaces for our families and those we care for.
You have important gifts to share with the world. And you're already holding space for others.
Let this be a space for you to be held and witnessed. Let's get you back to center.
