Autumn is the season when leaves release and fall to the ground.
We are like nature. We are nature, and we can receive the seasonal invitation to release what no longer serves us and give back to our great Mother Earth.
Sometimes, the transition from our active summer to the cool stillness of winter can be difficult physically, mentally, and emotionally, You can feel a little out of balance or out of sync.
From an Ayurvedic perspective (ancient wisdom and time-tested science from India), we notice the elements of air and space get stronger and autumn brings the winds of vata (force of movement). It's qualities are dry, light, rough, cold, and mobile. This force of movement can create imbalances or disturb existing subtle imbalances in the body, mind, and nervous system. If we don't take time to attune to the changing elements around us and tend to the whispers of our body, we can move toward greater dis-ease.
This change of season and any disturbances can create restlessness, worry, anxiety, dryness in the skin, body aches/joint aches, constipation, appetite and weight fluctuations, feeling depleted, and more. However, Ayurveda offers some simple ways to support your body and mind during the seasonal shift. This mini-retreat is inviting you to pause, listen, notice, and engage in some grounding practices that can create balance.
We can take our cues from nature. The trees turn vibrant in celebration, then drop their dying leaves, while they pull energy inwards to redirect it to protect their roots for winter. We, too, can pause to mark the end of harvest, celebrate, heed the call to rest, restore, re-source, and connect to our true nature. There's so much beauty to take in. At the same time, there may be grief or disappointment to digest as well. And what else is possible when we allow a little time to pause, rest, and receive this time of transition and it's invitation to digest a little life before the next season? We can make space for it all and allow more ease and flow with this transition.
I'm always reminded of Mary Oliver's poem.
"We shake with joy, we shake with grief.
What a time they have, these two
housed as they are in the same body."
Root into your own being and cultivate balance this November before the holiday and winter season. Come home to yourself so you can feel more ease in body, mind, life, and spirit.
Let’s pause together to acknowledge all of the many transitions around us, and within us, and within our lives. Let’s remember that nature is a dynamic and gentle teacher. We can attune our own rhythm with hers to remember our own resilience, power, beauty, and roots to be present with all of life and it’s transitions. Hope to see you there! Karla |
